Before You Start

Tools You'll Need

  • Adjustable wrench or spanner
  • Screwdriver (for the handle screw)
  • Soft cloth (to wipe the housing before fitting)

What's In The Box

  • 1 × Diverter Cartridge with Extra-Long Head (JKC-429)
  • 1 × Protection Cap (9.5mm × 9.5mm)
Verify before you start: Confirm your existing diverter's body diameter is 44mm and the square drive stem is 7mm × 7mm before fitting the new cartridge.

Your diverter should now switch smoothly between tap and shower. Give it one more test before you consider the job done.

Turn Off the Water Supply

Locate the stop valve feeding your diverter mixer and turn it off fully before touching any part of the fitting.
Take care: Don't skip this step, even for a quick swap — water pressure will make the next steps messy and unsafe.
Remove the Diverter Handle

Unscrew the handle's fixing screw with a screwdriver and lift the handle away to expose the cartridge housing.
Take Out the Old Cartridge
~2 min
Using a wrench or spanner, gently unscrew and lift out the old, worn diverter cartridge from the housing.
Take care: If the old cartridge is stiff, turn it gently rather than forcing it — sudden force can crack the housing threads.
Check the New Cartridge's Fit

Before fitting, compare the JKC-429's 44mm body diameter and 7mm x 7mm stem against your old cartridge and housing.
Insert the New Cartridge with Extra-Long Head

Line up the new cartridge with the housing and lower it straight in, seating it fully at the correct orientation.
Take care: Don't force it in at an angle — the extra-long stem needs to seat straight for a clean fit.
Fit the Protection Cap
~1 min
Place the 9.5mm x 9.5mm protection cap over the stem and hand-tighten it, then snug it gently with a wrench.
Take care: Overtightening the cap can crack the plastic — hand-tight plus a gentle final turn is enough.
Reassemble the Handle
~2 min
Refit the diverter handle over the stem and secure it with its fixing screw, tightening firmly but not excessively.
Test the Diverter
~1 min
Turn the water supply back on and switch the diverter between tap and shower a few times to confirm smooth, leak-free operation.

Do

  • Test the diverter's switching action before closing everything up

Don't

  • Don't overtighten the handle screw or protection cap — this can crack the housing
  • Don't force the cartridge in at the wrong orientation
  • Don't apply a wrench with excessive force directly on the plastic body
  • Don't discard the old cartridge or packaging until fit is confirmed
  • Don't skip the water-off step, even for a quick swap
