Before You Start

Tap each item as you gather it — a couple of minutes of prep now saves a return later.

Tools You'll Need

  • Adjustable wrench or spanner
  • Flat-head screwdriver (optional — for a stiff old spindle)
  • Soft cloth

What's In The Box

  • 1 x JKC Essco-style flush valve spindle (35mm)
Verify before you start: This spindle is sized for Essco-style flush valves only — 7mm x 7mm square drive head, Ø25mm thread diameter, 119mm overall length. Compare these against your old spindle before fitting; if they don't closely match, contact support rather than forcing the fit.

Nice work — all steps complete!

Your Essco-style flush valve should now be sealing and flushing smoothly. If anything still feels off, check the Troubleshooting section below.

Turn Off the Water Supply
~1 min
Locate the shut-off valve feeding your flush valve and turn it fully off before doing anything else.
Flush the Valve to Release Pressure
~1 min
Press the flush handle once to release any remaining water pressure in the line before you start dismantling anything.
Remove the Flush Handle / Knob
~1 min
Unscrew or pull off the flush handle to expose the square drive head of the old spindle underneath.
Unscrew the Old Spindle
~2 min
Using an adjustable wrench on the hex nut, turn the old spindle counter-clockwise and withdraw it from the flush valve body.
Take care: Grip the hex nut only — never clamp a wrench or pliers directly onto the square drive head or the shaft.
Compare Old and New Spindle Dimensions
~1 min
Before fitting, lay the old spindle next to the new JKC spindle and compare the square head size, thread diameter, and overall length against the listing's dimension chart.
Take care: If the dimensions don't closely match, stop here and contact support rather than forcing the fit.
Install the New JKC Spindle
~2 min
Thread the new spindle into the flush valve body by hand, turning clockwise until it sits snug against the seal.
Take care: Hand-tighten only, then a light final turn with the wrench — overtightening can damage the O-ring seal.
Reattach the Flush Handle / Knob
~1 min
Fit the flush handle back onto the square drive head, making sure it sits fully seated before securing it.
Turn On Water & Test the Flush
~1 min
Turn the water supply back on, then press the flush handle through a full cycle and check for smooth operation with no drips around the spindle.
Points To Take Care Of

Do's & Don'ts

The most common fitting mistakes — and how to avoid them.

Do

  • Compare the old spindle's dimensions against this listing before fitting
  • Turn off the water supply fully before starting
  • Hand-tighten the new spindle until snug
  • Keep the old spindle until you've confirmed the new one fits and seals properly
  • Test the full flush cycle after fitting
  • Use a wrench only on the hex nut, never on the shaft

Don't

  • Don't overtighten the spindle — this can damage the O-ring seal
  • Don't force the spindle if it doesn't thread in smoothly — recheck dimensions first
  • Don't skip flushing the valve before removing the old spindle
  • Don't grip the square drive head directly with pliers
  • Don't discard the old spindle until the new one is confirmed working
  • Don't ignore a slow drip after fitting — recheck the seal
